Q&A about module in action during recent emergency/Info about module training
PROMIS Change Lead, Charles Hoare, recently connected with Alison McNary, Clinical Nurse Educator at Island Health, about how the Emergency Planning module of the PROMIS information system was used to assist a hemodialysis (HD) care team during a recent emergency.
A: Last November, the Renal Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital experienced a sudden and unexpected loss of water supply to the unit. A decision was quickly made to end treatment for the 36 patients who were receiving hemodialysis. The clinical team needed to quickly prioritize which patients would need to be redirected to a community dialysis unit. Within the PROMIS Emergency Planning module we were able to run the Renal Patient List. Having key patient information, including the most recent K+/Potassium level in one report, assisted the clinical team in quickly prioritizing patients.
A: Running a full and current renal patient list that includes K+/Potassium levels on one report that can be printed. Being able to view capacity information for other hemodialysis sites via the HD Facility report was also helpful when planning potential patient redirections.
