BC Renal is pleased to welcome Dr. Melanie Brown as our new senior medical lead, provincial quality and data. In this part-time role, Melanie will support enhanced usability of data across clinical teams and bring a clinical perspective to strategic issues affecting quality of care and evaluation. Her responsibilities include co-chairing the PROMIS Steering Committee and attending various health authority renal program meetings on behalf of BC Renal, where she will support cross-health authority collaboration and provide provincial perspective and counsel.

In addition to this new role, Melanie will continue her work as medical director of Fraser Health's renal program, her position as a clinical assistant professor at UBC, and her clinical nephrology practice.

"By using data analytics and clinical data metrics, I want to enhance and optimize patient care in BC," Melanie says. "I'm excited about predictive and advanced analytics possibilities to improve and individualize patient care — ensuring we are providing the right care for the right person at the right time."

Thank you to Dr. John Antonsen

We would also like to extend a big thank you to Dr. John Antonsen who served for three years as a BC Renal senior medical lead. In this role, he supported provincial alignment across health authority renal programs and provincial committees, operational issues with provincial impact on quality and patient care, pandemic operational response, and leadership of the medical advisory group. John’s people-centred approach, wealth of clinical knowledge and sense of humour were greatly appreciated during his tenure.

John continues his clinical nephrology practice in Victoria and will serve as chair of the BC Renal provincial Hemodialysis Committee until the recruitment process for that role is completed.
